Reston Town Center North

Galloway’s traffic team played a critical role in establishing and evaluating the general block layout, street grid, and connections to public transportation that set the stage for the rezoning and land swap of the 48-acre Reston Town Center North development.

Located midway between Tysons and Dulles International Airport, Reston Town Center North is a rapidly urbanizing area of northwestern Fairfax County, spurred in part by the extension of the Metro Silver Line completed in 2022.

The redevelopment transforms a collection of irregularly shaped parcels that are incompatible to the Reston Town Center core and surrounding development into a cohesive, mixed-use neighborhood that transitions seamlessly into the existing community. The comprehensive plan organizes the site into eight blocks surrounding a 3.5-acre central green:

Block 1: Future public elementary school
Blocks 2, 4 and 6: Residential, office, and medical development
Block 3: New library
Block 5: New homeless shelter and human services building
Block 7: Athletic field
Block 8: Recreation center

As part of the multidisciplinary team, Galloway reimagined the original Reston Town Center master plan from the 1990s, building on its urban framework to extend the core street grid into Reston Town Center North. The resulting design creates a crisscrossing street network, new block structure, and enhanced multimodal connections. Located approximately one mile from the Reston Town Center Metro station, the development reinforces Reston’s “Live, Work, Play” transit-oriented identity while creating a more connected and cohesive extension of the existing town center.
