The South Utah Valley Solid Waste District (SUVSWD) is a special service district in Utah County that handles municipal solid waste, household hazardous waste, and recycling. The district’s current transfer station opened in 1990 and handled the municipal solid waste and recycling initiatives for the communities of Provo, Spanish Fork, Springville, Mapleton, Salem, Goshen, and Woodland Hills. Due to rapid population growth and concerns about the facility’s location, the district proposed an updated and expanded transfer station in Spanish Fork.
The district’s state-of-the-art Dry Creek Transfer Station is the latest environmental recovery facility serving residents of Utah County. The new facility features five buildings dedicated to separate functions for processing commercial and residential waste, recycling, and hazardous materials: a 108,130-sf warehouse, a 3,155-sf maintenance building, a 5,895-sf administration building with a community education programming room, a 3,070-sf household hazardous waste building, and a 410-sf scale house. The facility also includes a tipping floor and was specifically designed around three large compactors where all trash and recycling are processed.
Galloway collaborated with Forsgren Associates, Inc., to oversee the design and worked with the general contractor for the construction.
