Galloway has provided design services across the nation for over 40 years, and the addition of our Maryland office further enhances our ability to support the eastern U.S. The D.C., Maryland, Virginia (DMV) region is a hub for opportunities, as growth in our nation’s capital is fueled by government projects, cultural institutions, and private sector development.

Carl Schmidtlein

Carl offers more than 30 years of expertise in land development. His areas of emphasis have ranged from site feasibility, due diligence, and land entitlement approvals to general site engineering and project management. Carl has been instrumental in building some of Galloway’s most successful client relationships. As a client manager, he strives to provide the highest service and dedication to projects.

Carl is highly active in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and received his Certified Retail Property Executive (CRX) designation in 2013 and is also a Certified Development, Design, and Construction Professional (CDP). He is a former ICSC State Operations Chair for Colorado/Wyoming and is a former co-chair for the Program Planning Committee for the ICSC Rocky Mountain Chapter.

Carl received a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the Colorado School of Mines along with a minor in environmental science in 1993, and in 1998 he graduated from the Leeds School of Business “50 for Colorado” program. In 2001, Carl received his master’s in business administration from the University of Colorado, Denver. Carl is a professional engineer (PE) registered with NCEES, licensed throughout the U.S., and a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC). He is also a LEED-accredited professional and an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) member.

Brian Horan

Brian has 13 years of experience in transportation engineering and planning, including addressing transportation issues and using data to create innovative solutions for private real estate developers and public sector clients. Brian’s experience also includes traffic and parking studies of varying nature and scope and data collection activities. Brian is a motivated leader whose technical skills and natural charisma make him an asset to every team.

Brian is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP), the Society for Marketing Professional Services, and the Denver South Employer Transportation Champions. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Chris Kabatt

Chris is a registered professional engineer with over 25 years of experience in traffic, parking, and transportation planning and engineering for private developers, institutions, and public sector clients. He works extensively on residential, retail, mixed use, office, hospital, and school projects. His services include transportation impact studies, parking analysis and design, site access and circulation studies, speed studies, and transportation demand management plans. Chris is also skilled in designing traffic signals, signing, and marking.

He is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Urban Land Institute, and Commercial Real Estate Development Association (NAIOP) in Northern Virginia and D.C. Maryland chapters. Chris received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Penn State University.
