12,800 sf
As the City of St. George has experienced rapid growth over the past decade, it became critical to provide the residents of the Desert Canyons community with adequate emergency response services. The new 12,800 sf station is designed to serve the nearby developments and residents, while also supporting the airport fire station. Since the site is located near the airport, it was essential to coordinate the height of the training tower with Federal Aviation Administration requirements. Due to the remote desert conditions, our team needed to consider the various soil types for the structures as well as the stormwater management system.
Working closely with the City, Galloway adjusted the design based on insight gained from the prototype design of the previous station to fit the different functional and operational requirements for this particular station. This included adding a dorm room and restroom next to the battalion chief’s office, with some spaces adapted to meet new equipment standards. Taking into consideration the unique site constraints, we also adapted the station to enhance vehicle circulation and site access and provided ample space for the training tower while still fulfilling the station’s needs.
The fire station includes four apparatus bays, a combined training and community room, single-user private restrooms, and an ancillary storage and training tower building.
