Galloway Architecture, Civil Engineering, Surveying Blog

Thank You, Armando

November 11th, 2022

Armando is a Navy veteran and Galloway project Surveyor.Armando Nunez is a proud Navy Veteran, having served for eight years. He has been a project surveyor with Galloway for over six years.

After living the first six years of his life in Mexico, he wanted to give back to the country that gave him a new life and opportunities.

“I joined to give this country something back,” said Armando. “I cannot imagine living my life anywhere but here. I am so blessed.”

After graduating high school, he joined boot camp, went to apprentice school, and was assigned to a two-year deployment on the USS Kitty Hawk. He worked one of the most dangerous jobs in the world as a Navy Airman on the catapult crew. His job was to connect planes to the catapult for take-off and assist in landing them. This involved constantly being alert and ready for action. Armando recalled a story about how he had to help put out a fiery plane that had snapped in half during landing.

“It was hard work, and you constantly had to pay attention because your life is at stake,” he said.

Throughout his eight years of service, he served two years active, two years in active reserves, and four years in inactive accounts – including a two-week deployment on the USS George Washington.

After a three-month adjustment to civilian life, Armando pursued an engineering technology degree at a community college. He completed a land surveying internship and worked in land surveying for ten years before joining Galloway.

Since joining Galloway, Armando has found his niche in platting large subdivisions.

“I like to start with a piece of land and then get all this information on where it came from, how it was made, and who owns it,” he said. “It is a story about a piece of land that will always fascinate me.”

Armando appreciates the strong leadership of the survey team and the enjoyable work environment at Galloway. In his free time, he likes to fish and play baseball.

Thank you, Armando, for your service to our country.
