Dr. Jan Van Sickle—a geospatial consultant with more than 50 years of professional experience—has joined Galloway & Company, LLC as a senior geomatics land surveyor.
Jan’s newest leadership role tasks him with driving the team’s technical excellence through mentorship while also guiding the strategic growth of survey services at Galloway.
“The extensive knowledge that Jan brings is enhancing the way we serve our clients today while also preparing our crews to be future leaders in the field,” says Brian Dennis, senior survey project manager at Galloway. “Jan is a great fit for our team. He takes pride in precise survey work and does so while caring for his teammates and their success.”
A University of Colorado Denver postgraduate, Jan has an extensive background in solving geospatial challenges for global brands. Most recently, Jan was a principal scientist of research and development at Maxar Technologies where he developed a process that produces satellite imagery with submeter 3D absolute accuracy.
“Using today’s technologies to better understand the land around us and how we safely navigate, build onto, and protect it is immensely fascinating,” says Jan. “However, properly using those tools and correctly applying the data they generate are two different ingredients for delivering quality work.”
Jan knows a thing or two about delivering with quality and precision: He’s instructed companies, governments, and college classrooms the world over about geomatics—the science of collection, analysis, and interpretation of data relating to the earth’s surface. His contributions include three published books: Basic GIS Coordinates 3rd edition, GPS and GNSS for Land Surveyors 5th edition, and Surveying Solved Problems 4th edition.
“I am excited to have joined Galloway. When I first met with the team, I could immediately see their passion for the science of surveying. Connecting with a company that puts people first and a team that shares my same enthusiasm for this line of work is where I prefer to put my abilities and knowledge to use,” says Jan.
