Cameron Neil, Galloway’s first-ever marketing intern (2025).
Editor’s note: Say “hello” to Cameron Neil, Galloway’s first-ever marketing intern! This is her article—a piece about her experience through the first few weeks of her internship. While we don’t have any internship opportunities remaining in 2025, we encourage students and early careers professionals to check back in 2026.
It’s internship season at Galloway, and we’re celebrating a milestone: a record number of 25 interns hired across our nationwide offices! Additionally, this year’s class of early career professionals represents a wide range of job interests, including architecture, engineering, design, and marketing.
As Galloway’s first-ever marketing intern, I am navigating this role at the company’s home office in Greenwood Village, Colorado, with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Leading up to the first day, I faced a wave of overwhelming thoughts – like “What should I expect?” and “Will I feel behind?” The transition into the professional world can be incredibly intimidating!
For a better idea of what my internship journey might look like, I spoke with Taylor Duryea, Galloway’s early career talent strategist.
“At Galloway, our interns are team members,” Taylor shared with me. “They work on real-life projects, real life tasks, and alongside our teams of shared experienced professionals. As much as the internship is valuable to their growth, it also helps Galloway prepare for the future generations of employees. It’s this mutual benefit that has Galloway invested in the program in a big way in 2025.”
That sense of mutual investment is something I’ve felt from the start. I’ve noticed that across our offices, interns are quickly learning that this internship is more than just a resume booster- it’s a confidence builder.
Stephanie Zumba, an architectural design intern in the Wichita office, shared: “From sitting in on meetings with principals and consultants, to receiving hands-on guidance, it’s clear that the mentorship here is mutually valuable. My mentors are genuinely excited for me and go out of their way to get me involved in different types of projects.”
Even those of us just getting started are already seeing the rewards take shape. Cy Sokolowski, a mechanical design intern here in Greenwood Village put it simply: “Coming to work feels less like a job and more like a collaborative team that I get the opportunity to be a part of. This has made it so energizing and enjoyable to come into the office every day.”
And in Johnstown, civil design intern, Ethan Williams, described the diversity of his experience as a major win: “I’m lucky enough to work on the civil design and water resources team, where we’re taken out into the field, and survey. I get hands-on activities and responsibilities, which really is great for me and my growth.”
As I got to know my fellow interns, I realized I wasn’t alone in my early nerves. Carson Will, an architectural design intern in Atlanta, opened about her first-week worries: “I was so nervous to start my internship with the insecurity that I was behind in my knowledge and would be seen as ‘burden’, however, that is far from the truth. I have amazing mentors here with me that are excited to teach me.”
That support is what makes the Galloway internship experience so meaningful. We’re handed tasks designed as steppingstones for learning and development. My writing assignments, for instance, come with soft deadlines that include meetings, opportunities to discuss feedback, and room to explore creative direction. There’s an intentional effort to not only challenge us, but to mentor us through the challenge.
There’s also a unique thrill in being trusted with high-stakes projects. Whether it’s a quick-turnaround proposal or a writing piece for a wider audience, I’ve learned rising to a challenge builds confidence faster than anything else.
Taylor offered advice that I think about often: “Ask questions, take initiative, strive to leave your comfort zone, and always push to learn more.”
And I’d add this: Don’t be afraid to be new. There’s something powerful about being at the beginning of something, especially when you’re surrounded by people who want you to succeed.
Whether or not I end up working at a company like Galloway, I’ll leave this summer knowing I’m capable of learning new skills and growing in any new environment I step into.
If you’re wondering whether you should apply for that internship, at Galloway or anywhere else, consider this your sign. The leap is worth it.
We are nationally recognized and locally preferred. We would love to work with you on your next project.
