Seventh and Sherman

Capitol Hill is welcoming its newest retail project at Seventh Avenue and Sherman Street that will offer several new restaurant spaces, slated for an early 2018 opening.
Surrounding residents will be attracted to the single-story walkup spot that creates a place for diners to engage with the bustling area. Unique architectural details make this design a one-of-a-kind addition to the block: metal awnings juxtapose the warm coreten steel, which sets the tone for the single-story building amid high-rises in the rapidly expanding neighborhood.
Its many operable openings create motion that complements the vibrancy of the area. The details are pulled together by the board-formed concrete, which gives the simple form of the building a decidedly unique feel.
Galloway successfully addressed the need for a distinctive design to attract restaurant patrons in the eclectic Capitol Hill neighborhood by creating a one-of-a-kind building design and adding a unique, colorful mural on the back of the building. Additionally, while awnings were desired as part of the design, easement restrictions prevented the use of fixed awnings. As a solution, Galloway’s architecture team created custom awnings that can be opened and closed to satisfy jurisdictional requirements.
